WE(st) MAKE(s) MEDIA

For the WE(st) MAKE(s) MEDIA project of Koers Nieuw West that took place during the IDFA, Tobias was asked to design posters and flyers together with 2 Pal West Modeatelier participants (Kiki & Zindzi, age 16). In this co-creation process we decided to built a piece of Amsterdam West with all types of objects linked to media. We also made a leader for the filmfestival, did the decorations of the venue and did a little bit of food-design.

De Vrolijke Krisis

For Project "Noordje op Wielen" by Noordjes Kinderkunst MIAMIVICETEAM was asked to make two art pieces for kids.
This sound piece was one of them. "Noordje op Wielen" is an art exhibition for kids in an old city bus. The theme of the 2008/2009 exhibition was "Street".

For this piece we showed several kids (age 5 to 12) pictures of all sorts of art in public space and asked them to describe what they saw and what they thought of it. We wanted to play with the fact that a lot of people react to art with the frase: "Nice, what is it?". Kids look with a different eye, are closer to their imagination and it made for interesting results to our research.

Their words, although inspired by existing art pieces, make the listener see images that not yet exist. Enjoy!

Urban Green / Your Skillz

Urban Green is a project of Young Designers & Industry that deals with the question of how to treat 'green' in new urban situations.
On their website they state:

"Stad en natuur worden eigenlijk altijd als tegenpolen van elkaar gezien. Met het project Urban Green willen we de twee ogenschijnlijk conflicterende belangen– de ontwikkeling van de stad en het behoud van het groen – samenbrengen en integreren."

Urban Green was asked to do 2 workshops on Your Skills, an event for young people to discover their skills and interests. I (Tobias) was partly responsible for the workshop concept, together with YD+I and Pal West Modeatelier participant Gaia (age 16).

We asked the youngsters about their hang-outs, why they choose that spot and not another, how they use it, what they miss in public space in their neighbourhood, how they'd like to see elements of nature used in their daily environment, etc. They could build a maquette with pieces of firewood, coloured paper and lots of vegetables!

TOOLBOX

Op 21, 22 en 23 november 2008 vindt TOOLBOX plaats. TOOLBOX is een designproject waarbij deelnemers en bezoekers aan het werk gaan met Foam, Buzzworks, RELOAD, Club Zonder Filter, Zipper en Hanazuki. Zij hebben creatieve opdrachten die je ter plekke uitvoert (pitches). Hierbij zijn zij uiteraard zelf aanwezig om te helpen en om het werk uiteindelijk te beoordelen. De pitches zijn geheim totdat je van start gaat. Alles wat je als deelnemer hebt, zijn je hersenen en je handen; je TOOLBOX. En als je echt met een goed idee komt, wordt jouw werk gebruikt in één van de producten of evenementen van de opdrachtgevers.

TOOLBOX is een initiatief van productiehuis Nowhere in samenwerking met kunstenaars Tobias Krasenberg en Jorge Bakker (MIAMIVICETEAM). Met TOOLBOX wordt een concrete brug geslagen tussen creativiteit van jonge mensen en bedrijven die op professioneel niveau iets met kunst doen.

Why We Write

One evening in NOWHERE Theatre, the kids from the NOWHERE Art workshop did some Live Action Drawing, while the Spoken Word Artists of the NOWHERE POETRY CIRCLE were performing. Using their words as inspiration. The result of this drawing session was shown in DE APPEL during the AMSTERDAM MUSEUM NIGHT, november 2007. It was also the book release of "Why I Write" by NOWHERE POETRY CIRCLE, designed by Tobias Krasenberg. More pics will follow!

Concrete Jungle Kids Exhibition

Ongeveer 2 maanden geleden kondigden we aan dat de ART workshops van cultuur productiehuis NOWHERE weer van start gingen. Sindsdien hebben de jongeren die mee deden van alles gedaan en beleefd:

-Zo klein gekrabbeld dat de ogen pijn deden
-"Live" portretten getekend van de spoken word/ poetry slam artiesten van de POETRY CIRCLE NOWHERE
-Waren deze portretten te zien in de Appel tijdens n8, de amsterdamse museumnacht
-Verdwenen er voeten in bakken latex
-Hadden ze veel (verkleed) plezier
-en werkten ze verschillende avonden aan een groot gezamenlijk schilderij.

Al de vruchten van dit werk zullen zaterdag 24 Nov. 2007 exclusief te zien zijn in het paviljoen van de Gerrit Rietveld Academie. De veelzijdigheid van de deelnemende kids zorgt ervoor dat er ook een kleine modeshow zal plaatsvinden.
Kunst is geen kunst zonder gratis drankjes, dus die zullen ook zeker weer aanwezig zijn! Voor de gelegenheid zal het Miami Vice Teaching Team nog 1 keer transformeren tot het Miami Vice DJ Team en de muziek verzorgen.

Iedereen is uitgenodigd een kijkje te komen nemen naar deze getalenteerde kids, hun werk en een glaasje truttige rode wijn te drinken of dikmakende chocomel.

For 4 days kids (age 14) from the Pieter Nieuwland College Amsterdam worked on Art projects using their own identity as inspiration. We focussed on using Photography in different ways.

NOWHERE ART! Workshop Fall 2007

Donderdag 4 okt. begint Atelier Nowhere weer! De creatieve kunstworkshop voor jongeren, gegeven door het "Miami Vice Teaching Team", Jorge Bakker en Tobias Krasenberg. Jorge is beeldend kunstenaar en studeert architectonische vormgeving aan de Gerrit Rietveld Academie (GRA). Tobias is dit jaar afgestudeerd aan de GRA en heeft de GRA-prijs gewonnen voor beste eindwerkstuk vormgeving. In 8 weken zul je met de andere deelnemers toewerken naar een echte expositie!

De workshop zal deze keer gericht zijn op extreem klein en extreem groot, denk aan miniscule werkjes onder vergrootglazen en kwasten aan stokken. Je zal kennis maken met nieuwe technieken, nieuwe kunstenaars, nieuwe denk- en werkwijzen en nieuwe mede-creatievelingen.

NOWHERE is een cultuurpand en een productiehuis voor jonge Amsterdammers, de missie is om jonge mensen in al hun diversiteit verrassende kansen te bieden, te inspireren om ze zichzelf te laten ontwikkelen.

NL70 magazine/ Clips Voor Vrijheid

For a few months we travelled to every corner of Holland to give workshops on mostly high schools. In 2 hours time each kid would make an animation with the theme 'FREEDOM'.
Our job was to help them figure out what freedom meant to them and how to show this in an interesting way. The clips were shown on stages of Het Bevrijdingsfestival, the 5th of may 2008.
New media artist Merel Mirage, who's masterminded 'Clips Voor Vrijheid' and the 'Holy Animator', asked us to document a day in the life of a Holy Workshopmaster. Here is our report as published in NL70 magazine... Click for larger image.

Dit is meer 'stressen', dan 'tekenen'

In this little e-book you can see the result of a lovely 2 hours we spent with 8 lovely 10-12 year old girls. On their school trip, a few classes of the Bloemcamp School first went to the NEMO science museum and then came to NOWHERE for Graffiti, Breakdance, Fashion and Art workshops.
We asked them to name the most interesting thing they saw at NEMO (from 'tongen' to 'robots') and to use that as inspiration for this workshop. We gave our group little boxes to start out with, every kid got one material or tool that they could use on their box. After 5 minutes they had to give the material to the person next to them and so on... Of course this game element made for chaos at times but also kept them concentrated and working at a fast pace.
'Jezus, dit is meer stressen dan tekenen!'

They thought our names and occupations really didn't suit us at all and weren't afraid to tell us, so they baptised us Flip the Stylist and Rasta the Breakdancer.
